Should I upgrade to Windows 10?
This is the biggest question we are asked at Wiztek Computers. Our advice is to approach upgrading with extreme caution at first, and would advise not to update your computer to Windows 10 on the day of release, and instead leave it for at least a month until things have settled down and any initial problems which are likely to occur have been ironed out.
If you do decide to go ahead and upgrade to Windows 10 there are some things you need to do to ensure the upgrade goes smoothly and also protect you and your data from any problems that could occur.
- Make a complete backup of your whole computer. Before doing anything you should make a complete image backup of your system, if something should then go wrong in the upgrade process you will be able to restore your system to how it was before the upgrade was started.
- Backup all your data. As well as making a complete image backup of your system as highlighted above, it would be wise to make a separate backup of all your valuable pictures, documents, music, and any other important data you cannot afford to lose. Of course you should have these safely backed up already, but it’s human nature to allow this to lapse so make sure you have copies of everything you couldn’t afford to lose.
- Install all latest updates. It would be wise to ensure that your current operating system is completely up to date with all the latest security and critical updates
- Make sure your current software and hardware is compatible with Windows 10. Microsoft should release a compatibility tool to use prior to doing your upgrade to Windows 10 which should highlight any potential problems before doing the update. If you have any software you cannot be without it will be wise to check before performing the upgrade to Windows 10 that this is compatible, check with the manufacturer for compatibility.
